How To Use TSA Locks
HOW TO SET YOUR CODE
& UNLOCK YOUR SUITCASE.
New suitcase? Setting your personal combination for the first time? This guide will help you unlock your luggage, identify your lock type, and set a secure three-digit combination.
UNLOCKING YOUR NEW SUITCASE.
Most new three-digit combination locks arrive with their factory combination set to 0-0-0, unless otherwise indicated by the manufacturer.
Align all three number dials with the lock's indicator line.
YOUR FIRST UNLOCK.
Turn the three number dials until they display 0-0-0.
Locate the lock's opening mechanism. Depending on your suitcase, this may be a sliding latch or a push-button.
Slide the middle latch in the direction of its arrow or press the designated opening button.
If your zipper pullers are inserted into the lock, they should now be released. You can open your suitcase.
0-0-0 is normally the factory setting, not a universal unlocking code. If the combination has already been changed, you will need the current combination to open or reset the lock.
THREE LOCKS.
THREE SIMPLE GUIDES.
Combination locks can have different reset mechanisms. Identify the type installed on your suitcase and follow the matching instructions below.
These instructions cover three common lock mechanisms. Lock designs can vary between manufacturers and luggage collections. Always follow your product's supplied instructions if its mechanism differs from the examples below.
PUSH-PIN RESET LOCK.
This lock has a small recessed reset button. You will need a ballpoint pen or another suitable blunt-tipped tool to press the reset button.
-
Set the number dials to the current combination. For a new lock, this is normally 0-0-0.
-
Using a ballpoint pen, press down on the small recessed reset button.
-
While holding the reset button down, turn the number dials to your desired three-digit combination.
-
Release the pen from the reset button, then slide the middle latch in the direction of the arrow until you hear a click.
Your new three-digit code has been saved. If you wish to change it again, repeat these steps using your current combination instead of the original factory code.
OFF / SET SLIDER LOCK.
This lock has a reset switch with two positions marked OFF and SET.
-
Set the number dials to the current combination. For a new lock, this is normally 0-0-0.
-
Locate the reset switch and move it from OFF to SET.
-
Turn the number dials to your desired three-digit combination.
-
Move the reset switch back from SET to OFF to complete the process.
Your selected code is now saved. To change it again, begin with the current combination and repeat the same process.
PRESS & HOLD RESET LOCK.
This type uses a combined Reset/Open button. To unlock a new suitcase, align the dials to 0-0-0 and press the opening button.
-
Set the number dials to the current combination. For a new lock, this is normally 0-0-0.
-
Press and hold down the Reset/Open button.
-
While keeping the Reset/Open button pressed, turn the number dials to your desired three-digit combination.
-
Release the Reset/Open button to save your new combination.
Repeat the procedure whenever you wish to change your code. Always start with the current combination.
Do not hold down the Reset/Open button while changing the number dials during normal use. Only do this when you intentionally want to change your combination.
YOUR COMBINATION.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
Once you set a personal combination, Voyageur 1976 does not have access to your selected code and cannot retrieve it from your suitcase. Please memorize your combination or record it somewhere secure, separate from your luggage.
WHAT IS A TSA LOCK?
TSA stands for the Transportation Security Administration.
A TSA-recognized luggage lock is designed to allow authorized security personnel to open your luggage for inspection using an appropriate master key, when required.
After inspection, the lock can be closed again without the traveller needing to replace the lock.
Why didn't my suitcase come with a key?
The small keyhole on your TSA lock is intended for authorized security inspection personnel. Customers normally do not receive a key for this keyhole.
For everyday use, you open your suitcase using your personal three-digit combination.
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS.
Can I change my combination more than once?
Yes. You may change your combination whenever you wish, provided you know the current code and follow the correct reset procedure for your lock type.
Why won't my suitcase open with 0-0-0?
The factory combination may already have been changed, or your suitcase may use a different locking mechanism. Check your manufacturer's instructions and ensure the numbers are properly aligned with the indicator line. Do not force the lock or zipper pullers.
What if I've forgotten my personal combination?
Contact the suitcase manufacturer or Voyageur 1976 for guidance specific to your luggage model. Please have your product details and proof of purchase available. We cannot retrieve a personal combination once it has been changed.
Are these reset instructions the same for every brand?
No. Lock mechanisms may differ between brands and collections. These instructions cover three common styles. If your suitcase has a different mechanism, refer to the instructions supplied with your product.
